National Locum Tenens Week is upon us again, and everyone at Interim Physicians couldn’t be more enthused to celebrate this special occasion with our outstanding locum tenens providers!
Each year, during the second full week of August, the locum tenens community honors physicians and advanced practice providers who work on a temporary basis. Judging by the industry’s growth in recent years—from about $4 billion in 2019 to a projected $9.5 billion by the end of 2024—that’s an increasingly large percentage of the more than one million doctors and APPs in America.
According to estimates, about 52,000 providers work locum tenens assignments each year, delivering essential healthcare to more than 7.5 million Americans. Locum tenens providers are always adaptable, ready to step in at a moment’s notice, and use their lifesaving skills to meet the needs of diverse communities, especially those in rural and underserved regions.

National Locum Tenens Week is sponsored by the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations and is observed this year from August 12-16, 2024. The event was created to acknowledge the contributions of locum tenens physicians and advanced practice providers and the importance of locum tenens staffing to ensure continuity of coverage in facilities across America.
