Healthcare systems across the country depend on nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified registered nurse anesthetists to help bridge gaps in coverage while ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality care.
With the growing demand for healthcare driven by aging populations and rising rates of chronic conditions, advanced practice provides help expand patient access to care in healthcare facilities of all types. This week, in honor of National APP Week, Interim Physicians celebrates the vital contributions of APPs who meet these challenges head-on.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, NPs and PAs are among the fastest-growing segments of the healthcare profession. NP employment is projected to grow by 40% from 2023 to 2033. Now, with 355,000 licensed NPs and more than 158,000 PAs, the United States has over 513,000 licensed advanced practice providers—more than half the number of active physicians.
Given this rapid growth, the healthcare industry has grown increasingly reliant on APPs to meet the rising demand for care. Whether managing chronic conditions or leading clinical research, APPs bring expertise and adaptability to critical environments like emergency and operating rooms, frequently handling complex cases that save patients’ lives.
“At Interim Physicians, our mission has always been to provide healthcare where it’s needed most. APPs embody that mission daily by serving in communities that often lack sufficient physician resources,” said Interim Physicians’ president Shawn Mullen. “Their dedication ensures no patient is left without the care they deserve, and we are incredibly proud to support them as they work wonders.”
